January 2017: Owen

Owen is a tutor at our Lincoln Park site and has been tutoring since 2012.

We had the opportunity to interview him and ask:

What do you like about tutoring? I like the connection with the student, giving back to the community that I live in.

What has your relationship with your tutee been like? Good, took a while for him to feel comfortable with me, it’s been four years and now we have a joking relationship but at the same time he knows I am here to help him succeed academically.

What subject has your tutee has excelled in? Reading comprehension

If you were to describe Bridge in 3 words, what would those words be? Welcoming, patient, structured.

What advice do you have for other tutors? Showing up consistently shows your student that you're serious and your going to be there. If you show that type of commitment they’ll respond likewise.

December 2016: Sue

Sue has been tutoring with Bridge for 3 years. Her favorite part of tutoring:

"the children are my favorite part, I love working with them and and watching them really thrive. The Columbine site is also a very warm welcoming place to come where the children are happy, and excited to be here. I love that it is a fun happy place for them to learn."

Also, the staff at Columbine love Sue's hugs!

November 2016: Terry

Terry had been working with her tutee, Noor for two years. She is wonderfully patient and kind.  In addition to being a tutor, Terry volunteered in the classroom for K/1s all summer long!
