December 2016: Mahamud

Mahamud is a 4th grader who attends our Columbine site. He has been attending the Bridge Project for four years! His favorite thing about Bridge is computer class and playing NBA Math Hoops, which is a NBA basketball board game and mobile app that allows students to learn fundamental math skills through direct engagement with the real statistics of their favorite NBA and WNBA players. His interests are football (Dallas Cowboys), reading, math, playing outside and his favorite color is blue!

We asked Mahamud what he wants to be when he grows up? His answer: a football player, to do something in math, a musician, and a magician performer! The sky is the limit for students like Mahamud.

October 2016: Phoug

Phoug is a student at our Westwood location. Phoug and his siblings have been attending Bridge for years. He is now in the 4th grade and has been attending the Bridge Project since pre-K (5 years!).

Phoug enjoys reading. He likes the many books in the Westwood Bridge Project's library. As a big reader, it is only natural that his favorite subject in school is reading.

When Phoug is not in school he likes sports: swimming, soccer, and football. He is a natural athlete and likes to be fit. He hopes to one day be a professional soccer player for Brazil!

We are proud to have Phoug as a member of the Bridge Project, his passion for being active and reading is infectious.

December 2015: Tonya

The Bridge Project would like to highlight our student Tonya this month! Tonya is a 6th grader that has been participating in Bridge for over four years. Tonya says she’s been coming to Bridge for so long because the staff and interns help her with her homework. Most recently, Tonya has fallen in love with Bridge’s Robotics program. In Robotics, Tonya has learned how to control and program a robot (her robot’s name is Rainbow). Tonya says that participating in Bridge and Robotics will help her in the future because she has learned how to resolve problems step-by-step instead of getting frustrated and giving up. Tonya hopes to go college to become a graphic designer. Congratulations on all your hard work, Tonya!

November 2015: Madina

Madina is one of our 1st graders at Columbine! She has been working every hard every single day on her reading and writing. Her hard work has paid off so much that recently, Madina was moved up to attend reading class with the 2nd-3rd graders at Bridge! She has taken this new challenge and run with it. Madina is not just one of the youngest in her the class she is also one of the emerging leaders. She often helps with setting up the classroom and even leads activities for her peers! Her tutor says the biggest difference she has seen in Madina over the last year of working together is her confidence. She says her favorite part about Bridge is that it is fun and her favorite class is reading. Madina has said that she would like to grow up to be a teacher just like Ms. Jackie!
